"My, that's some abdomen you have."

I found a spider in my room the other day.  It was between my desk and the wall, perched on an electrical outlet.  My first instinct was to send it to spider heaven (or spider hell depending on its' character), but Rochelle convinced me to fetch a Best Foods mayonaisse jar so we could capture it.  After I captured the spider, Rochelle examined it, and identified it as a black (or brown, were not quite sure) widow, as denoted by the red hourglass marking on it's underside.  I had no idea this type of spider resided on the Big Island, but now I'm guessing it's probably quite popular (or notorious for that matter) over here.  Rochelle's mother will be taking Marilyn (the name given to the spider by Rochelle) to the entomology lab at UH Hilo for further examination.  I'm told it's a good specimen.

What KidsHealth.org said: "If it's possible, have an adult catch and bring the spider to the doctor's office with you - this is important because it can sometimes be hard to diagnose a spider bite correctly."
