John the Baptist proclaimed to the crowds, "I am the voice of one crying out in the desert, make straight the way of the Lord. (John 1:23)
After me comes He who is mightier than I, the thong of whose sandals I am not worthy to stoop down and untie. (Mark 1:7)
I baptize you with water for repentance...He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire. (Matt 3:11)
John saw Jesus coming toward him, and proclaimed, "Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!" (John 1:29)
Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to John to be baptized by him. (Matt 3:13)
John would have prevented Him, saying, "I need to be baptized by You, and do You come to me?" (Matt 3:14)
Jesus said to him in reply, "Allow it now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness." (Matt 3:15)
After Jesus was baptized, He came up from the water and behold, the heavens were opened, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and coming upon Him. (Matt 3:16)
And a voice came from the heavens, saying, "This is My beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased." (Matt 3:17))
At once the Spirit drove Him out into the desert and He remained in the desert for forty days, tempted by Satan. (Mark 1:12-13)
