LANGUAGE ARTS
READING
Develop word recognition skills using phonics and structural analysis.
Build vocabulary.
Read and discuss to build comprehension utilizing the different levels of thinking.
Appreciate a variety of reading materials.
WRITING
Express ideas clearly and effectively emphasizing paragraph development.
Dictionary skills (The student should be given a list of words each week. He or she should be able to look up the word in a dictionary, find part of speech it belongs to and look up its meaning. The student should also be able to write an original sentence for each new word.)
Write in the four areas - describing, explaining, narrating, and reasoning.
SPEAKING AND LISTENING
Listen attentively, respond to questions, and participate in activities.
Discuss and respond to a given topic using appropriate English and expression, correct pronunciation and phrasing, enunciation, and adequate volume through discussions, oral reports, current events, etc.
