Jesus' Chalice

  1. To render God the highest form of worship.
  2. To thank Him for all His blessings.
  3. To make reparations for all our sins.
  4. To obtain all the blessings we need.
  5. To release souls from Purgatory and to shorten our own time there.
  6. To help preserve us from all dangers to soul and body.
  7. To be consoled at the hour of death, for at that moment their memory will be our greatest consolation.
  8. To intercede for us at the Judgment Seat of God.
  9. To bring down God's blessings. Therefore, we should assist at the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, every Sunday and Holy Day and as often as possible during the week.
  10. To understand better the sublimity of the Passion of Christ, and to increase our love for Him.

If you are a Lutheran, your religion was founded by Martin Luther, an ex- monk of the Catholic Church, in the year 1517.

If you belong to the Church of England, your religion was founded by King Henry VIII in the year 1534 because the Pope would not grant him a divorce with the right to remarry.

If you are a Presbyterian, your religion was founded by John Knox in Scotland in the year 1560.

If you are a Protestant Episcopalian, your religion was an offshoot of the Church of England founded by Samuel Seabury in the American colonies in the 17th century.

If you are a Congregationalist, your religion was originated by Robert Brown in Holland in 1582.

If you are a Methodist, your religion was launched by John and Charles Wesley in England in 1744.

If you are a Unitarian, Theophilus Lindley founded your church in London in 1774.

If you are a Mormon (Latter Day Saints), Joseph Smith started your religion in Palmyra, N.Y., in 1829.

If you are a Baptist, you owe the tenets of your religion to John Smyth, who launched it in Amsterdam in 1605.

If you are of the Dutch Reformed church, you recognize Michaelis Jones as founder, because he originated your religion in New York in 1628.

If you worship with the Salvation Army, your sect began with William Booth in London in 1865.

If you are a Christian Scientist, you look to 1879 as the year in which your religion was born and to Mrs. Mary Baker Eddy as its founder.

If you belong to one of the religious organizations known as 'Church of the Nazarene," "Pentecostal Gospel." "Holiness Church," "Pilgrim Holiness Church," "Jehovah's Witnesses," your religion is one of the hundreds of new sects founded by men within the past century.

If you are Catholic, you know that your religion was founded in the year 33 by Jesus Christ the Son of God, and it is still the same Church.

The notice of her execution has been posted, but the execution has never taken place. Science killed her, and still she was there; history interred her but still she was alive. Modernism slew her, but still she lived.

If we Catholics believed all the lies and calumnies that are told about the Church, we would hate it ten times more than bigors do. The enemies of the Church often do not hate the Church; they only hate what they erroneously believe to be the Church.

Judge the Catholic Church not by those who barely live by its spirit, but by the example of those who live closest to it.

...it never suits the particular mood of any age, because it was made for all ages...

A Catholic knows that if the Church married the mood of any age in which it lived, it would be a widow in the next age. The mark of the true Church is that it will never get on well with the passing moods of the world: "I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you." (John 15:19)

Today she is accused of being behind the times because she does not go mad about Freud, and I dare say, that in fifty years from now, if one of the teachers in any of our great universities mounted his rostrum and talked Freud, he would be considered just as antiquated and behind the times as a politican who today might mount a soap-box at the corner of 42nd Street and Broadway, and open a campaign for William McKinley as President.

A man can join any other movement, group, or cult without provoking hositle comment from his neighbors and friends; he can even found some esoteric sun cult of his own and be tolerated as a citizen exercising his legitimate freedom and satisfying his own religous needs. But as soon as anyone joins the Church, hatred, opposition appear.

The Church is not a continous phenomenon through history. Rather, it is something that has been through a thousand resurrections after a thousand crucifixions. The bell is always sounding for its execution which, by some great power of God, is everlastingly postponed.

It is not for the Church we have to fear, bout for the world...Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen

I should not believe the Gospel except as moved by the authority of the Catholic Church."

Saint Augustine of Hippo, Against the Letter of Mani, 5:6

"Whoever is separated from this Catholic Church, by this single sin of being separated from the unity of Christ, no matter how estimable a life he may imagine he is living, shall not have life, but the wrath of God rests upon him".

-St. Augustine [A.D. 412]

"Even if Catholics faithful to Tradition are reduced to a handful, they are the ones who are the True Church of Jesus Christ."

~St. Athanasius

The Catholic Church is the one true Church of Jesus Christ

...Matthew 16:18

Tha Mass is the temporalization in time and localization in space of Calvary

Tha Mass causes the historically past events of His life to emerge here and now in their eternal reality. Here there is no subjective recollection, but the re-emerging of Christ's Death and Resurrection into our contemporaneous situation. The Lord opens the bridge between the eternal and the temporal; that which was past is resummoned for active operation here and now...Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen
