Chapter 4: I Want You To Want Me

"Get out there and show Brit how ya do it," Jill smiled at Tonya, who was applying the last traces of lipstick before her set.

"I was born to show Brit how ya do it," Tonya smiled. "Gloss or no?"

"Just a little on the bottom lip, makes ya lips fuller," Jill suggested, laughing at Tonya's statement. "Just go show Brit up."

"Can do," Tonya said, making her way to the entrance she was to use.

Jill sat down and heaved a sigh. So far the concert had gone great. soulDecision, Mandy Moore, Jessica Simpson, *N Sync, and Johnny No-Name had each done their set and Tonya was preparing to run onstage in a matter of seconds.

After that, the Backstreet Boys would go do their set, and half-way through they would stop and have all the performers come up to present the check to Brian.

"Hey," A voice yelled in her ear, almost snappy.

Jill jumped, then whirled to see Justin rock back on his heels, grinning. "Don't do that!" She exclaimed, lightly backhanding him on his stomach.

"Why not?" Justin asked, an impish grin covering his innocent face.

"Because you scared me, maybe?" Jill suggested.

"Hmm," Justin said. "Exactly why I should continue."

"Quit trying to sound all smart, Timberlake," Jill grinned.

"I don't have to take this from you," Justin began. "I've got hundreds of people dying to abuse me."

"Ok. Let 'em," Jill shrugged. "I don't see why anyone should be denied that privelage."

Justin sighed and sat down. "The abuse I take. Hey, uh...How'd you get into this, anyway?"

"I came up with the idea, gave it to Rok, and he told me I was in charge."

Justin sighed. "I figured that much."

"Ask a stupid question, get a stupid answer," Jill smirked.

"Daisy, where's my clothes?" AJ ran up.

"Probably hidden between Nick and Rok's," Jill said, pointing him to a trailer.

AJ nodded and took off, "Thanks!"

Jill turned back to Justin. "I need to go take some photos, you gonna come or stay?"

"Come," Justin stood and followed Jill to the front of the stage in the outdoor arena. "Tonya?" Justin raised his eyebrows as he watched Tonya dance and sing her way into the hearts of the young girls and guys standing in the audience.

"Talented, huh?" Jill observed, glancing at Justin before snapping a wonderful black and white picture.

Justin simply nodded. "I knew she was good, but I never knew she was this good."

Jill simply nodded.

"So...You wanna go out tomorrow night?" Justin asked casually as Tonya's dancing led her to their side of the stage. She did a terrific double-take of Jill and Justin, knowing the look on Justin's face when he was flirting. When Jill saw her looking, Jill gave her an unsure look, and Tonya winked, giving her a discreet thumbs-up.

Jill gave Tonya a stern look, and Tonya grinning as she launched into the chorus of her favorite ballad, A Place Like This.

"Hey, I've got to go help the Backstreet Boys get ready, it's almost time for them to come on!" Jill realized, dashing off. "I'll talk to you later!" She called over her shoulder.

"You ready guys?" Jill asked, walking into the trailer.

"Yeah...You done flirting?" There was no mistaking the smile in AJ's voice.

Jill turned to face him. "Cute."

"So I've heard," AJ smiled a cocky smile at Jill, and she rolled her eyes. "Why did he look at me funny when I asked you for my clothes?"

"'Cause he doesn't quite realize that I Rok's my daddy and Leigh Leigh's my mommy and you guys are my own personal freaks of nature."

"He doesn't know you're the Backstreet Baby?" Howie asked, raising an eyebrow. "He was at my club the other night!"

"Yes. He was. But guess what? He's blonder than Nick," Jill smirked.

"Hey!" Nick protested. "Don't compare me to Fro Boy."

"Aww, and for once you actually got the good end, too," Jill smirked at him yet again.

"Come on, let's go," Brian stood and everyone filed out of the trailer. "Let's go, guys!"

Jill watched, laughing, as they began their ritual song, but joined in when AJ grabbed her and began dancing her around the lawn, grinning at her in the sunlight. Leigh Anne laughed and snapped a picture with the camera loaded with black and white film. They were taking photos to hang up in the offices and lobby of the office.

"Go sing, X," Jill laughed, pushing him towards the stage. AJ grabbed Amanda and picked her up, dancing in a quick circle with her, flinging her around like a rag doll.

"AJ!" She screamed. "Let me down! Go harass a teenybopper or something!"

At AJ's look, everyone screamed, "No! Just go sing!"

Obediently, AJ did so, along with the rest of the boys, and about half-way through their set, they paused and Brian stepped forward. "As you all know, this is a charity concert for my charity foundation, the Healthy Heart Club. So, I want to dedicate this song to all the kids out there with heart problems, but mostly to Amandah Young. Come here, baby."

Amandah ran to Kevin, the closest, looking uncertaintly out at the crowd.

"Come hold my hand, sweetie," Brian smiled and the opening notes to What Makes You Different (Makes You Beautiful) filtered to the ears of the audience.

"You don't run with the crowd
You go your own way
You don't play after dark
You light up my day

Got your own kind of style
That sets you apart
Baby that's why
You captured my heart

I know sometimes you feel
Like you don't fit in
And this world doesn't know
What you have within

When I look at you
I see something rare
A rose that can grow anywhere
And there's no one I know that can compare

What makes you different makes you beautiful
What's there inside you shines through to me
In your eyes I see all the love I'll ever need
What makes you different makes you beautiful to me

You got something so real
You touched me so deep
See, material things
Don't matter to me

So come as you are, you got nothing to prove
You won me with all that you do
And I wanna take this chance
To say to you

What makes you different makes you beautiful
What's there inside you shines through to me
In your eyes I see all the love I'll ever need
What makes you different makes you beautiful

You don't know how you've touched my life
Oh, in so many ways I just can't describe
You taught me what love is supposed to be
You saw the little things that make you beautiful to me

What makes you different makes you beautiful
What's there inside you shines through to me
In your eyes I see all the love I'll ever need
What makes you different makes you beautiful

Everything in you is beautiful
Beautiful to me

Jill smiled as Brian lifted Amandah into his arms and she curled shyly into him.

"So, tomorrow night?" Justin's voice floated to her as he walked away. "I'll pick you up at eight!"

"What do you want from me?" Jill called after him, shaking her head.

"I want you to want me," Justin shrugged and disappeared around a corner with the rest of *N Sync.
