Chapter 35: When You Feel All Alone

"Ok, girls, help me out here," Angel climbed onto her bed and sat cross-legged, clad in a pair of plaid pajama pants she'd jacked from JC's drawers and a tight white tanktop.

"Whatcha need?" Britney asked, walking in.

Karizma, who was already on the bed, nodded.

"Besides a lobotomy?" Angel asked.

"Yeah, besides that," Karizma laughed and situated herself on the bed, nearly falling off it backwards in the process.

"Fruit," Angel smiled. "Anyways, I need to figure this out. JC goes on trial in three days and I don't know anything."

Karizma smiled evilly.

"Don't say it," Angel warned.

Britney laughed at the pair. "You guys are truly two of a kind."

Karizma smiled. "We like to think so."

"We like to hope so," Justin joked, walking in with three cans of Pepsi. "Here. Night, Riz, night Angel. See you later, Babe." Justin kissed each girl on the nose, then left the room.

"Night, Bubby!" Angel called after him. "Ok, how did this happen? Screw everything that happened before."

"Bobbi showed up and JC was arrested," Karizma said. "I thought you caught that."

"I did," Angel said. "But how does Bobbi know anything well enough to go to the police? She's not crazy enough to just go off a whim."

"How could she prove anything?" Karizma asked.

Angel sighed. "She knows JC won't lie."

"Too bad you had to fall for someone with some integrity," Karizma sighed. "I always pictured you as the type to go for the bad boys."

Angel shrugged. "That didn't work out so well for me."

"Where'd you find 'em?" Karizma asked.

"I lived in Vegas, Riz," Angel rolled her eyes. Many times Karizma forgot Angel moved there only a year ago. "There were plenty."

Karizma smiled. "But only one you wanted."

"But he's gone," Britney sighed softly.

"Thank you, Captain Obvious," Angel said to both of them.

"Anytime," Karizma said, sipping her Pepsi.

"Ok, seriously, I'm being way to unserious," Angel said softly.

Karizmna saw Angel's look of defeat and took a deep breath. "Ya know what? You've been totally bummed since he left. You deserve a little happiness. I'm sure he's fine."

"This is JC," Angel said. "He's not like everyone else I've dated. He doesn't know the first thing about how to be in jail! He's in a boyband! He'll be eaten alive."

Britney nodded. "He will be."

Karizma shrugged. "I tried to help, ok?"

Angel blew a kiss to her. "Just for that, there you are."

"Thanks," Karizma said dryly.

"As you love to say, anytime," Angel sighed. "What am I gonna do?"

"Hey, what's going on?" Chris walked in.

"We were trying to have a conversation without a random member of *N Sync walking in," Britney replied.

"I see how it is," Chris turned and walked away. "Don't forget, I know where you live."

"Yeah, Chris," Karizma laughed.

"Anyways, as I was saying, I saw this-" Britney began.

"What's going on?" Lance sauntered in with a bowl of popcorn.

"Thanks," Karizma said perkily, stealing the bowl.

"I want a conversation without *N Sync intruding!" Britney wailed.

Lance's eyes widened. "But I just...My popcorn...How come I?"

"Out!" Britney screamed.

Lance turned and walked away, shooting wary glances over his shoulder.

"I think that's all of them," Britney sighed. "Now, like I was trying to-"

"What's up?" Joey entered the room.

Karizma and Angel smothered giggles in their hands as Britney tried to swallow her frustrations.

"Nothing," Angel smirked.

"Whatcha talkin' 'bout?"

Karizma and Angel didn't bother hiding their laughter when Britney finally lost it.

"Tampons, Joey. We're talking about tampons! And we would like to do it without a member of *N Sync walking in while I'm talking about the efficiency of my tampon!" Britney screamed.

Joey shrank back. "Jeez, I'm sorry, ok?"

Britney nodded and then screamed at Joey. "Leave!"

Joey ran out the door to avoid the empty Pepsi can thrown at him and you could hear him scream, "Your girlfriend's evil, Timberlake!"

"I like her that way," Justin called back. "Besides, she's only evil if you don't bring food or drink!"

"Yeah, I got out relatively easy," Lance's voice echoed from his room.

"Better than I did, I bet!" Joey yelled.

Angel laughed. "The world doesn't know what they're missing."

"What?" Karizma looked at Angel funny.

"They only see the way you guys are in front of a camera or some fans. They don't get to see you being just you. Just Britney, just Lance, just Justin, just Josh, just Joey, just Chris."

Britney smiled. "We'd scare them away."

"True, true," Karizma nodded.

"What were you saying?" Angel asked.

"Oh!" Britney nodded, remembering. "There was this chick who was in kinda the same situation. What happened was they though the law to be legally able to chose was sixteen, but it was seventeen. The law was different in their state than the one she used to live in. Weird, huh."

Angel looked thoughtful for a moment, then her eyes lit up. "God, Brit, I think I love you!"

Britney smiled. "Hope that helped. No idea how, but whatever. I'm gonna go see what J's doin'."

"I'm gonna go give Lance his popcorn back," Karizma held up the now-empty bowl.

"Might be a nice idea," Angel's smile was contagious.

"Maybe," Karizma stood. "You gonna be ok?"

"If this is what I think, I'm gonna be perfect!" Angel said. "See you in the morning." Angel grinned and wrote down a list of things to do. First thing in the morning, she was getting some detective work done.
