According to the book " The Sound of music" when Julie Andrews won the film role of Maria , it was actually her second dramatic interpretation of a singing governess. A year before she did the disney role of " Mary Poppins" IN 1962 Andrews co starred in a tv show with her friend Carol Burnett. Julie and Carol included a pardoy of Broadway's biggest hit at the time " The SOund of music" . At first Julie Andrews didn't want to do the part of Maria but then she made a deal with her agent and everything worked out perfectly!
