remarks at 1998 amateur author's workshop

I changed my mind and want to go

to the main page

I ran across this when I was indexing some materials for a friend, apparently Clayton was at this function. My friend, an author by the name of Charles Henry says he met him there, and adds that all he seemed to be up to was disrupting the discussion.
That sounds about right.
Anyways, here is a copy of his remarks made there on the topic of inspiration:

'You know why I write all this poetry and other garbage?
because if I wrote self help books,
they would be titled:
"You don't like me-I don't care"
or
"Stop Bitching So Much, You're just Making it Harder for Everyone Else"
or
"Shut Up and Drink"

I write what I write becuse I have something to say, and I can only say it my way
I always thought that the best sort-of self-help advice
was along the lines of:
Alright, so now you've been born,
here are your guarantees:
1. You will only get older
2. Things will hurt you
3. Nothing works out like you will plan
4. You're gonna die, maybe right now, maybe later
and etcetera.

The best advice that applies to this?

You might as well have a sense of humor about it.

Thankyou for your time, I hope I have been helpful.'

Somehow I don't think the audience got quite what it expected
