Nick: "I Get Most Of My Energy From The Fans!"

How did your relationship with Jessica Simpson come about?
We met because we used to have the same manager, and we were on tour together a lot last year.

Your 26 and Jessica is 19. Does the age difference bother you?
Age isn't a big deal to me. It's just a number.

If you could sing about something other than love, what would you sing about?
I'd want to sing about political issues, stuff that means something to people.

Where do you get all your energy?
I don't get much sleep at all. I get most of my energy from the fans and their enthusiasm.

What do you do on the 98 degrees tour bus when you get bored?
I'm on the phone a lot, but usually, we just try and have a good time.

What kind of good time?
We have a lot of water fights with the board and crew.

What is the most outrageous thing a fan has done to get your attention?
Some fans have flashed us.

Have you guys considered releasing a live CD?
We'd love to. Live music has so much more energy.

What groups would people be surprised to know you like?
I'm a huge fan of Metallica, Korn, Guns 'N Roses, and I even like some country music.

Why did the group change record labels from Motown to Universal?
Universal was a much better fit for us because they have a better grasp of the pop music world.

When are you guys going to do another album?
We're starting our new CD next month.

What have you learned about the music industry?
It can be a very dirty business and you need to be very careful about who you associate with.

How Jessica Makes Time To See Nick!

Are you afraid that you'll lose fans because you're dating Nick Lachey of 98 degrees?
No. That's ridiculous. Fans want you to be happy. I get so many letters from female fans saying, "You're so lucky to be dating a guy that's nice and that cute!" I rarely get hate letters, but I have gotten a few.

Is it hard to keep up your relationship with Nick Lachey?
It takes a lot of work because you have to make time. You have to sneak off for a few hours or a day. It's rare that we're ever off, let alone off on the same day. We keep in touch by phone and by e-mail, and we get to see each other between two and four times a month. But we both believe that where there's a will, there's a way.

What is your idea of a romantic evening?
Just quiet time alone to talk and kiss! All I want is some privacy! If I really want to get in the mood for romance, I'll light some candles and get out a few of my favorite snacks and drinks. I'm a really simple person who is just happy to have a moment to breath with my special guy.

What message would you like to send to teenagers?
I hope that my fans will see that you can be a good person and lead a good life and still have fun!

Do you worry about being perceived the wrong way in the media?
I didn't want people to say. "that's another teen singer," even though that's what I am. I want to be my own artist. I want people to hear my song and be like, "her voice!"
