Jessica Shows you her goofy side

Glamour girl? Nah! This Southern Belle knows how to put fame aside to have some fun!

Jessica Simpson has a silly streak. We're serious. Even though her MTV appearances ooze glamour, don't let the fancy clothes and flawless hair fool you. This 20-year-old Southern Belle tells J-14 that when she has time off from the non-stop pace of performing around the world, she loves to let loose with her friends back in Dallas. In fact, some of her girlfriend bonding will surprise you. "Obviously we shop, all girls shop," she says, naming Bebe, Rampage and shoe stores among her favorite stops. "And we go to the movies-it's kind of like an escape," she adds. But what seems really unglamorous for this platinum- selling, awardwinning songstress, is that Jessica likes to play dress down-not dress up-with her friends. "I'm not a partier. I'm not into that kind of thing," she admits. So instead of hitting the late-night party circuit, Jess, as her friends call her, unearths her old Halloween costumes from storage. "My friends and I have these get-togethers, we just do crazy stuff. We dress up in old Halloween costumes from like second grade," she says. "I was a troll and we went to a grocery store and walked around until we got kicked out," she giggles.

Her charm
Truly, Jessica knows how to poke fun at herself. It's her friendly, real, down-home quality that makes her a star you can relate to. It's no wonder she walked away with two awards, Best Breakout Artist and Best Love Song for "Where You Are," her soaring ballad with boyfriend Nick Lachey, who accompanied her on stage at the Teen Choice Awards. To continue to please her fans, Jessica will realease a new album this fall. As we went to print, the singer was busy working in New York putting the finishing touches on the album. "Things are going really well," she says about the recording process. "It is actually fun to be working in the studio again. It is very tedious work, but I love it. I am doing some writing. I may even learn some producing skills before this album is finished," she adds.

What can we expect for Jessica's second studio effort? Considering she's a self-confessed romantic-"I love love. I say that all the time," she says-fans can expect more soaring ballads like "I Wanna Love You Forever." Jessica's powerful pipes will also be displayed in uptemop songs. Although Jessica is toying with a television future (the WB is eager to give her a show), she assures us that she's going to continue with music for a long time. She also promises to show her goffy side from time to time. After all, having fun is what it's all about, she insists.
