After you have read and comply with the rules below,
Go to the Discussion Board!
Brian Tegart and Rick Norris will no longer be moderating the forum. The current moderators/admins are
Scott (mcclare@freenet.carleton.ca ) and
Joseph (j_amarillo@hotmail.com).
Kristi, also known as "Gromit" (robin1@virtual-mail.com) will also remain on as a moderator.
Evan, also known as "Protestant Person," is the moderator of the "General Theology" forum. He can be reached at this address: protestant_trinitarian@hotmail.com
This is a moderated collection of forums to discuss topics related to Bible Versions. This includes but is not limited to textual questions and textual criticism, Bible history, version comparison, translational issues, etc.
Questions, comments, criticisms etc. are all welcome. However, I ask that posts be on the topic of Bible versions and related issues (except for the "Anything Goes" forum, see below).
The breakdown of available forums on the board is as follows:
The board is meant to be fun and informative, even when there are disagreements. Due to some problems in the past, as well as some misunderstandings and questions about the purpose and restrictions, here are the...
Yes, we have a lenghty rules page. It wouldn't be necessary if people would behave themselves!
NEW RULE: Referring to administrator Scott McClare as "Scotty" is not permitted
Posters are NOT to remind or tell the moderators/administrators of the rules on this page, but moderators/administrators may remind the posters.
Nobody (with the exception of moderators and administrators of this board) is permitted to publicly comment on official moderator/admin disciplinary actions and/or warning comments issued to posters
Any complaints, concerns, or personal vendettas are NOT to be carried out publicly; such posts will more than likely be deleted. Instead, e-mail the individual with whom you have a problem.
If you disagree with the actions of a moderator/admin, you are to E-MAIL that moderator/admin. Do NOT publicly post your disagreements/complaints; such posts are likely to be deleted.
CHRISTIAN and NONCHRISTIAN POSTS
Blasphemy and Trolling - not allowed
Blasphemous or obvious attacks on any aspect of Christianity will be nuked, with the likelihood of immediate ban. (See "Warnings and Bannings" sections, below). Among other things, this means referring to any member of the Trinity in obscene terms is not welcomed. See Also: "Seekers and the Curious" and Roman Catholic and Eastern Orthodox Participation
Religion Comparison - not allowed (but tolerated in the "Anything Goes" Forum)
Posts proclaiming any other religion or cult as the true religion will not be allowed, not even in the "Anything Goes" forum (although honest and friendly comparsion will be).
Posts proclaiming any other religion's or cult's "scriptures" as the true scriptures will not be allowed, not even in the "Anything Goes" forum (although honest and friendly comparsion will be).
Further Clarification: this is a board by Christians for Christians; it is not a board dedicated to Non-Christian verses Christian debates. This means that Jehovah's Witnesses, Mormons, Muslims, Roman Catholics, atheists, Satanists, and other assorted critics of Christianity or the Holy Bible who post here to promote or defend their beliefs or sacred writings, whether it be the Book of Mormon, New World Translation, alleged papal supremacy/infalliblity (or what have you) are strongly discouraged from doing so, and such posts may be deleted at the discretion of the admins or moderators without prior warning or notification.
Seekers and the Curious - welcome in all forums
If you have questions or comments about Christianity, feel free to post! If you're curious or an honest seeker, come on in. All I ask is that unless your question or comment is strictly version-related, please post in the "Anything Goes" forum, but with the understanding that this board is NOT an arena for atheists, agnostics, Satanists, or other non-Christians to debate with Christians.
Challenges to the accuracy, truthfulness, authorship, origin, reliability and inerrancy of the Bible, theism, or of Christianity itself will not be allowed.
This is a series of discussion fora by Christians, primarily for Christians, not a "Christian vs. Atheist" or "Christians vs. Jehovah's Witnesses / Mormon / Roman Catholic / Satanists / Pagans / Wicca" board.
Genuine seekers are welcome, but arguing about Christianity just for the sake of arguing will be viewed as "trolling" (intentionally trying to start trouble, otherwise known in net lingo as "flaming") and will not be tolerated. See also: Blasphemy Not Allowed
Roman Catholics / Greek (Eastern) Orthodox may post at this series of forums, but we do not want any posts that would seek to undermine Baptist or Protestant beliefs or that would try to promote beliefs unique to Roman Catholicism. Anyone wishing to debate about Roman Catholic issues is invited to do so at another discussion board, Inquisition Discussion Board
PERSONAL RESPECT - You must maintain courtesy and respect for others at ALL TIMES! Those who will not cooperate and be respectful on this board will be prohibited from posting.
Discussion the problems you see with another position will be allowed, but personal attacks and similar things are not. ALL POSTS ARE TO BE MADE IN A FRIENDLY AND NON-INFLAMMATORY MANNER.
Issues, not People
Name Calling - not allowed
Thus, we should not use these terms, for it may turn out that the opposite party is correct and we would be put to shame. Christ did not have that possibility.
New addition: referring to administrator Scott McClare as "Scotty" is not allowed.
Gender - not an issue
Women posting in these forums are more than welcome. Dismissing someone's points because of their gender will not be tolerated. Discussion about the "woman's role" will NOT be permitted in any forum except the "Anything Goes" forum, and even then We will keep an eye on it.
Occasionally, because one moderator is a woman, 1 Tim 2:11-15, 2 Cor 11:3, Eph 5:22, etc. are raised in objection to a woman acting as moderator and enforcing the rules.
As such passages refer to a husband-wife relationship, and in context of a church setting, such objections are out of context in this setting. You may discuss this with me BY EMAIL if you disagree, but challenges or negative comments posted on the forum will result in an immediate warning or ban (see below).
(For another Christian view on gender roles, please see The Christian, Egalitarian View of Gender)
Questioning and/or Commenting on Spiritual Condition - not allowed!
There is to be no questioning, challenging, or commenting on the spiritual condition in a negative fashion of anyone who disagrees with you. This can be done on the "Anything Goes" forum, but only as long as the person whom your comments are about agrees to discuss them. Similarly, making assumptions or overgeneralizations in a negative fashion about what a person probably believes fall into this category.
This also includes other people/denominations in general. Issues may be discussed in the appropriate forum, but generic bashing of other denominations is not allowed.
This also includes people like authors, translators, etc. The only exceptions will be when context-obvious quotes are provided for evidence (see "Quoting" below).
Humor - use with care
Humor is a great gift from God. But like other gifts, it can be misused. Think twice before posting sarcasm, parody, etc. Make it clear that your humor is not intended to put anyone down.
Slander and "Rough Speech" - highly discouraged
For the same reasons in the "Name Calling" section above, slander and "rough speech" will not be tolerated. "Ruckmanese" especially.
Moderators
The actions of the moderators are to be respected. Inflammatory challenges to warnings will likely result in immediate ban.
New addition: referring to administrator Scott McClare as "Scotty" is not allowed.
MISCELLANEOUS
Posting E-Mail
Generally, private email should not be posted on the forum without the permission of the sender, for this basic reason: if the sender wanted his/her comments public, they would not have used a private medium.
If the sender is not aware of this forum and his email is strictly informative, you may post his info, but please try to obtain permission (before or after). I will remove/edit posts that contain someone else's email at the original sender's request.
EXTRA RULES FOR THE KJV-ONLY FORUM SPECIFICALLY
Quoting
When quoting an author or speaker, please supply the source and context of the quote. Failing to do this will not result in a warning, but the info would be greatly appreciated.
When quoting another poster from other than the current thread, please supply the source and context of the quote. Failing to do this will not result in a warning, but the info would be greatly appreciated.
Negative Assumptions and Generalizations
Negative assumptions and generalizations (ie. terms like "antichrist Bibles", "new age versions", "apostates", "heretics", etc.) of modern versions, modern texts, or Alexandrian manuscripts or the individuals who worked on these materials are not allowed. Such terms may be allowed on a specific basis, at moderators discretion of what constitutes inflammatory behavior/commentary.
Miscellaneous
New addition: referring to administrator Scott McClare as "Scotty" is not allowed.
Miscellaneous comments, such as implying Satan's hand in non-KJV Bibles, referring to the NIV as a "perversion" or some other similiar insulting term, feigning spiritual superiority, condecension and whatever a moderator deems inflammatory are not allowed.
Warnings
Breaking the rules above may result in a "warning". Thingslike posting in the wrong forum, etc, will not result in a warning. Warnings will be handed out (at a moderator's discretion) for breaking the etiquette rules above. The usual way (see below for exceptions) warnings and bannings will progress are:
First warning - sent by private email (if you've supplied your email address publically), and/or posted in response on the forum. Offending post may or may not be removed, at a moderator's discretion.
Second warning - sent by private email (if you've supplied your email address), and posted in response on the forum. Offending post may or may not be removed, at a moderator's discretion. Also, a notice will be given that this is the last warning.
Third warning - not really a warning, just a notice of...
Banning
After the warning sequence, the offending poster will be banned from posting further on the forum. In extreme cases, the offending poster's ISP may be contacted.
Appeals
If you feel you have been unjustly warned or banned, please contact the moderators by email, explaining your reasons. The moderators will discuss the situation and the warning or banning may be lifted.
Unbanning
If, via the "appeals" process, you have been unbanned, you are on probation. A single warning (instead of the usual two) will be issued in the event of an offensive post. A second offensive post while on probation will result in a permanent re-ban (appeals will be ignorned).
Warning and Banning Removals
Warning counts may be decreased at a moderator's discretion, for things like prolonged good behavior, extended absenses, etc.
Warning and Banning Exceptions
The rules are subject to change without notice.
I am not responsible or necessarily in agreement with the comments and/or URLs which may be posted on messages from time to time. I reserve the right to remove objectional posts and URLs at my discretion and archive them for those who request them.
The purpose of the above rules is to help the users of the board maintain the kind of attitude that we as Christians should have for one another. So remember this rule of thumb: HOW you post is just as important as WHAT you post.
Brian will no longer be moderating the forum. The moderators are now Scott, Joseph and Kristi.
