Mercy Ministries

Forty percent of the population of Chennai lives in slums. People are living in coconut thatched huts or semi brick buildings that the government has built for them. At present YWAM Chennai is working in four slums in the city. We are conducting literacy classes teaching people how to read and write. The ministry is also conducting medical clinics which treat the people with basic skin diseases, stomach illnesses and other problems.

YWAM Mercy Ministries also cemented the floors of the houses in a slum with over 10,000 people.

Other projects include day care centers for children, Sunday school programs, feeding for malnourished children, and assistance to local churches.

These are the type of huts most everyone in Ambednagar slum lived in, before assistance from the government, YWAM,and other Christian agencies.

Mercy Ministries construction work at Velachery slum. The mercy ministry especially helped in laying down quality concrete floors, and in improving the walls of new government given houses.

Most of the residents of the slum have been able to move into these better more permanent housing units.
