Church Ministry

On the western edge of the city over 2000 families are living on one of the busiest streets (Inner Ring Road) in Chennai. Every day people arrive in Chennai with high hopes of getting a good job but end up disillusioned and ultimately live on the pavement.

Our team is working amongst 500 families in one of the worst stretches of this road. These people are employed as construction workers, ditch and well diggers. We also have a children's ministry operating amongst these people and several house churches are now running.

The team presently is ministering though prayer walks, building friendships in the slum and amongst the pavement dwellers, house visitations and childrens ministry. The ministry has also given loans for small scale enterprises (such as flower selling, vegetable selling, tiffins, etc.) A few people each month are being taken to the hospital for medical checkups.

Future plans of the team include the multiplication of church teams, meeting felt needs so the Gospel can be preached (Adult Education, Medical Camp, Micro Enterprise, etc.), and raising up local people for church leadership and social projects.

Vacation Bible School

This year YWAM coordinated with churches to reach over 30,000 children (thirty thousand) through the VBS programmes this summer. During this last summer wonderful miracles have taken place.

The church ministry ran a VBS in one of the slum areas of Madras. In many areas the majority of the children that attended were from non Christian families. .

Stories are now being told of many children who found the Lord, one who prevented her mother from committing suicide along with herself because of a difficult father, a father who quit drinking alcohol because of the prayers of his child in VBS, and many other exciting results. .

Pastors were blessed with this ministry as it helps them to get into the families, brings the children to their church, and impacts the community. Children will become tomorrows leaders. Did you know that 85% of those that make decisions to follow Christ do so when they are between the ages of 4-14 years of age? .

You have all heard of the 10/40 Window where we are working but most of us have the 4-14 Window (children between the ages of 4-14) right near to us! Reaching Children is a strategic method for the Kingdom of God. .

Summer For Jesus
