Chapter 3:Taylor sat on the hard wooden bleacher, trying to get comfortable. He watched as his 11-year-old daughter bounced around the gymnasium floor with several other girls. The coach came out and said, "Okay, ladies. One more time, and we'll wrap it up!!"

The girls quickly fell into formation. One of the girls called, "Ready, GO!" The whole group began to move sharply together. Their voices were thin and lacking depth. However, they were all full of energy and were doing their dead-level best to fill up the gym with their yells.

Just then the cheer ended, leaving a split second for their voices to echo through the gym before they began to hop up and down again. "Very nice!!" the coach called. "Be here at 3 o'clock tomorrow for try-outs RIGHT AFTER SCHOOL!!"

Taylor stood up, as Marie bounded up to him. Her face was flushed, and an ecstatic grin plastered across it. "How did I look?!"

"Perfect, as always," he said, wrapping his arm around her waist. She looked up to him, her blue eyes sparkling.

"Do you think I'll make it?" she asked quietly, her face becoming somber.

Taylor smiled. "Of course. You'll do a wonderful job."

She smiled again and began to laugh. "Do you think Josh'll be happy if I make it?"

Taylor nodded, and held the door of the gym open for her to walk through. She did, and then they resumed their walk. "Josh is happy just as long as you aren't in his hair."

She wrinkled her nose. "He's the one who pesters me. Not the other way around."

"Uh-huh," Taylor said, sarcasm slipping into his voice. Marie opened up her car door and got in, just as he did the same.

"It's true!" she exclaimed.

Taylor turned the key in the ignition and began to pull out. He gave her a look just before they drove out of the parking lot. She smiled innocently. He had to grin back at her.

"Well," she said softly. "I guess I do pester him sometimes..."

"That's what I thought," Taylor said, easing his way out into the highway traffic. She reached down then and turned on the radio. The sounds of some new hit band resounded through the car. Marie danced and sang along, causing Taylor's smile to brighten a bit more.
