This spell alters the weight of any one item with that of another item touched by the caster. Basically this spell switches the weight of any one item the caster touches, however, there is a catch to this spell. Since it uses wild magic separated from the Weave, the spell randomly allots a weight to the item according to the following table, although the wizard may add a bonus to the percentile roll equal to twice his true level (not including level variation):

  • 01-05 -- Item becomes so heavy that is cannot be moved by nonmagical means, unless a creature or force equivalent to a Strength of 25 attempts to move it (only a character with a Strength of 25 could move it, if enspelled in this way).
  • 06-10 -- The target permanently gains the same density and weight as an equal amount of lead (roughly 1 pound = 5 pounds), thus becoming much heavier than intended by the caster.
  • 11-20 -- The target becomes twice the weight it was originally, unless a successful save vs. spell is made (objects save vs. crushing blow to avoid this effect).
  • 21-40 -- Target seems unaffected, by is under a feather fall spell for 1d4 days.
  • 41-60 -- The target is permanently rendered half weight (and half speed if a weapon).
  • 61-80 -- Target permanently gains the same density and weight as an equal amount of feathers (roughly 1 pound = 0.1 pounds), thus becoming much lighter.
  • 81-90 -- The target levitates for 1d4 turns.
  • 91-95 -- The weight of the target is negated for a full hour, a strong wind may blow it around as if it were very thin paper.
  • 96-100 -- The target of the spell is rendered totally weightless, and can fly about like the 2nd-level wizard spell, ride the wind.

    Intelligent creatures get a saving throw to avoid this effect, although they receive a penalty equal to the level variation rolled by the wild mage when the spell is cast. Note that negative modifiers to the caster’s level become a bonus to the saving throw for this purpose.
    The material component for weightless* is a feather from a bird of prey that was live while the feather was taken, or a feather freely given by the bird of prey.
