This spell is a greater powered stoneskin spell. It functions exactly the same, except that this multi-layer skin absorbs all psionics, spells and all other effects that would otherwise affect the recipient of this spell (all types of abilities save physical, nonmagical attacks). Thus making the spongeskin-wearing individual virtually immune to any attack by mind, spell, or the like. Even the psionic power of disintegrate cannot affect the protected creature, nor can a meteor swarm spell! For every attack, psionic or spell that would successfully affect the spell recipient, a spongeskin is lost, similar to how physical attacks lessen the protective ability of a recipient of the stoneskin spell.
This spell provides protection from 1d4 plus one attack per two levels of experience the wizard currently possesses. This limit applies despite whether the attack was magical or physical. For example, a spongeskin spell cast by a 16th-level wizard would protect from 9 to 12 such attacks. An attacking griffon would reduce the protection by up to three attacks each round and inflict normal damage for each such attack, while four magic missiles would only count as four attacks and have no effect. If not ended by attacks, the spongeskin spell lasts for 24 hours.
This spell also gives the spell recipient’s skin a porous appearance while in effect; this reduces the creature’s Charisma score by 8 points for the purposes of what it looks like to others. This spell can only be stopped by the spell Mordenkainen’s disjunction or wish, all other methods of dispelling it fail utterly. Otherwise this spell can be combined with a stoneskin spell, although in this case, the material component of the stoneskin spell must be doubled!
The material component is sponge soaked in quicksilver, and dust from a perfect diamond (worth at least 5,000 gp), which is then absorbed into the skin of the spell recipient.
Notes: Rare spell.
