Moonstar (Wiz 9; Invocation)
Range: Line of sight
Components: V, S
Duration: 1 rd./level
Casting Time: 6
Area of Effect: 1 target/level
Saving Throw: ½
This spell, which can only be cast at night, brings into being a beautiful ball of flaring silvery light (called a "moonstar"). The moonstar can perform one of two actions which the wizard must specify upon casting:
Powerstrike: The moonstar can fly at a chosen target and detonate upon impact with them. This use of the moonstar causes 1d10 points of damage per level of the caster. The moonstar is unavoidable, much like the magic missile spell. The moonstar then reforms, ready to powerstrike another target. A target can only be struck once by the same moonstar. In order to hit the same target more than once the caster would have to cast another moonstar spell, as after the first hit the moonstar phases through that particular target (which can be usful for hitting a target behind them).
Healing: The moonstar can heal an injured being of all diseases, curses, and other bodily afflictions. If used to heal wounds, the moonstar restores 2 hit points of damage per level of the caster. The moonstar can heal a being of all wounds or diseases, curses, etc. but not both. Healing wounds allows the moonstar to reform and heal other injured beings. Removing curses and diseases uses up the power of the moonstar on one being. Then it winks out of existence.
Notes: The spell was created by Mythrien Moonstar for admission into the Golden Enclave of the FORGOTTEN REALMS setting. Thus far, only the Inner Circle of that organization has knowledge of this powerful spell.
