Do you see that child,
The one that looks just like you;
Back when they all said you can do,
Or be anything you wanted in life.
Then they immediately hack at
The foundations they’ve built in your head.
No to this and that, and you can’t do that;
They missed out on the irony I would assume.
In all their grown up intelligence they missed
The hypocrisy of their own beloved system.
So we sit here, given everything and now
Left with nothing but our childish dreams,
Told we can’t accomplish what we will.
We aren’t old enough, or it isn’t for us;
Mired in treachery to them unknown.
Grounded in the heights they praise,
While systematically destroying our hopes.
Leaving us secure in our abandonment,
Lost in the precarious bonds of youth.
