Yazston's Blasting Shadowmist — Drow
(Conjuration, Evocation)
(Shadow)
Level: 7
Range: 40 yds. + 10 yds./level
Components: V, S, M
Duration: Special
Casting Time: 7
Area of Effect: Special
Saving Throw: None
This causes the area of effect to be cloaked in a shadowgloom spell, while a dark blast spell bursts a moment after the area is covered in the misleading, shadowy mist.
The two effects of the blasting shadowmist spell may not be used to target two different areas. Creatures immune to, or protected against, either the shadowy gloom or the radiation suffers the effects/damage from only half of the spell they are vulnerable to. If protected against both, they will take only 1 point of damage per level of the blasting shadowmist caster due to the shock of the conflicting shadowy powers harnessed from the demiplane of Shadow and the strong radiation energy of the Underdark.
The shadowgloom manifests as a writhing, swirling, irregular cloud of translucent gloom whose thickness and darkness continually vary. The cloud created by the dark blast is a 30'-diameter sphere, is stationary, and can affect vision (and therefore aimed or missile attacks, which suffer a -2 penalty to hit) into it. Specifically, things within a shadowgloom are affected as follows for all creatures except the caster: the features of any one creature can be disguised, the nature of any one small hand-held object (such as a key) concealed, and the outlines of any single marking (arrow, sign, inscription, or heraldic device) obscured. This spell is often used to protect the caster against archery, or to conceal precisely where a secret entrance is located and how it is accessed. This effect is halted by solid barriers but slips past all obstacles around or through which there is an opening
The dark blast creates a jet-black ball of radiation energy from the Underdark, this sphere causes 1d6 damage per level of the caster (to a maximum of 10d6). The caster can have any creatures or objects he willingly touches or a single race (for example, the drow) immune to the damage caused by this nefarious spell. Under no circumstances is the caster ever harmed by his own spell. However, it only detonates twice, once after the onset of the shadowgloom spell, and then again at the beginning of the next round. When the first round of the damage occurs, the dark blast winks out of existence and reappears the following round, at its start (on initiative 1).
Beings in the spell area of a blasting shadowmist suffer the effects of a 30' radius shadowgloom spell, and 10d6 damage from the dark blast.
The material components of a blasting shadowmist is a dark gem of any type that was mined in the Underdark and which has then been touched to the shadow-stuff of the demiplane of Shadow.
Notes: Restricted to the drow; very rare spell.
