Severyn's Forceball
(Evocation)
(Force)
Level: 2
Range: 45 yds. + 10 yds./level
Components: V, S
Duration: Instantaneous
Casting Time: 2
Area of Effect: 1 or more creatures or objects
Saving Throw: Special
Developed by Severyn after witnessing Mordenkainen as he unleashed his force missiles into a battle. Thus was born a minor attempt to be as powerful, and one good spell also. This spell creates a brilliant globe of magical energy, which streaks forth from the caster’s hand to unerringly strike its target, identical to a single sphere created by a Mordenkainen's force missiles spell. The target must be seen or otherwise detected.
This forceball inflicts 2d6 points of damage upon impact with the target creature, and then bursts into a concussive blast of force that causes 2 points of damage per level of the caster to all within a 3-foot radius. For example a 3rd-level caster would have his forceball cause 2d6+6 points of damage. A target creature that makes a successful saving throw vs. spell negates the concussion damage, but the impact damage of the ball itself allows no saving throw.
This forceball, unlike magic missile can damage or destroy inanimate objects, especially fragile or delicate items. Such items must make a successful saving throw vs. crushing blow or be shattered. Sturdy objects, such as thick stonework, are unlikely to be affected.
Notes: Rare spell for force mages; otherwise very rare.
