Phoenix's Phireball
(Evocation, Necromancy)
(Fire)
Level: 9
Range: 100 yds. + 10 yds./level
Components: V, S, M
Duration: Instantaneous
Casting Time: 9
Area of Effect: 20' radius globe
Saving Throw: ½
This potent magic allows the caster to create a globe of fire in the exact dimensions and specifications of the 3rd-level wizard spell, fireball. However, the main difference in this is the fact that there is no limit to the amount of damage that can be caused by this potent and ancient spell. This increased damage is not gained immediately. The caster must pay for the damage with her own life essences, at a rate of 1 hp point of her life per 1d6 points of damage the phireball will deal (with the appropriate saving throw for half damage).
Therefore, if cast by an 18th-level wizard with 47 hit points, the caster could have her phireball inflict 17d6 points of damage, causing her 17 points of damage from the strain and giving of power into the Art.
The material component of Phoenix's phireball is the life force of the caster, which is channeled through either a large piece of sulfur, or through his or her own body, as long as the caster is a fire creature of any sort (like genasi, half-phoenix, etc.).
Notes: Unique to Lady Phoenix of the Forgotten Realms setting, and perhaps those archmagi she trades magics with.
