This spell invokes a very, very serious migraine in the victim; causing them to suffer vast amounts of trauma to their brain and general mental health. The caster must target the victim's mind and thus must successfully roll an attack on the target of the spell. Although the wizard must only attack AC 10; unless head protection is worn, in such cases the helm or other protective device only grants its wearer half its normal physical protection (magical bonuses still function with full effect).
Thus against a thief without head gear AC 10 would hit and the spell would be successful, whereas a fighter in a helm AC 4, would be struck on a hit vs. AC 8 (half that of the helm). If said helm was also a helm +2 only AC 6 would hit (half the protection of AC 4 = 8 +2 = AC 6). Bracers of defense and other purely magical protections are fully functional against this spell.
This effect causes 2d4 points of damage to the victim in temporary head damage, and they must also roll a saving throw vs. spell in order to cast any spells or make any other complex actions during the spell duration. The spell lasts an additional round for every 3 levels the caster has achieved, inflicting another 2d4 points of damage each round. So at 3rd-level it lasts two rounds, while at 6th to 8th-level the spell lasts three rounds, etc.
The material component for Pa'Dreylinyn's Mindshout is a pinch of brain matter from a lesser being, even insects; which is eaten by the caster.
