Lester's Blazing Balls—Illusionist (Wiz 1; Evocation, Illusion/Phantasm)
Range: 5 yds./level
Components: V, S, M
Duration: Special
Casting Time: 1
Area of Effect: 1-10 targets
Saving Throw: ˝
This spell creates 1 tiny globe of crackling fire for every level the caster has attained (up to the maximum of 10 for a 10th-level wizard). These missiles fly unerringly at their targets with a movement rate of 21 (A). Each such fiery missile causes 2 points of damage, but a successful saving throw vs. spell reduces this damage to half (as victims recognize the blazing balls as the tiny pinpoints of fire they are, which are masked with illusion making them appear much larger).
Furthermore if the blazing balls are not used as soon as they are created, they will remain in existence and usable by the caster for an entire turn. After which they dissipate into small motes of orange light and fade from existence.
The material component for Lester's blazing balls is a small set of flint and steel, which is not consumed in the casting.
Notes: This spell was created by Lester Lesserspell and is restricted to Illusionists; uncommon.
