Improved Spellcraft
(Divination)
Level: 5
Range: 0
Components: V, S, M
Duration: 1 hour/level
Casting Time: 5
Area of Effect: One spell
Saving Throw: None
By casting this spell, the caster is able to recall as often as he wishes for the duration of the spell, all verbal, somantic, material components, effects, etc. of a specified spell cast by another mage. The improved spellcraft must be cast in the round immediately following the round in which the spell, to be remembered, was cast. The caster must be able to see & hear the mage clearly. The image is replayed over & over again in the caster's mind at will so that he can write down the information in his spellbook to learn the spell.
If the caster has the spellcraft proficiency, he can cast the copy spell during the duration of the improved spellcraft. With a successful proficiency check at -2, he is able to copy the spell correctly into his spellbook. If the check is failed, the caster unknowingly copies the spell incorrectly, and when learned, the spell has different results from expected. Even if the spell is copied correctly, the caster is not automatically able to learn the spell. An Intelligence check must be made to see if the mage can understand the spell. It then must be researched, but the research time is greatly reduced. The time is only 1 hour per level of spell and the cost is 25% of the usual costs of spell research. The regular rules for learning a spell apply, like level & specialty restrictions. If the Intelligence check or the Learn Spell roll is failed, the mage cannot again attempt to learn the spell until he gains a new level.
The material component of this spell is that of the other spell, which is first cast, then this spell uses the residual energies left to fuel itself.
