Eyes of the Dead
(Alteration, Divination)
Level: 1
Sphere: Necromantic
Range: 10 yds./level
Components: V, S, M
Duration: 5 rds./level
Casting Time: 4
Area of Effect: The caster's eyes
Saving Throw: None
This spell is similar to the 2nd-level wizard spell detect invisibility, except that is allows the caster to see with the vision of undead, very much like what a skeleton of zombie might see. This grants all the benefits of the detect invisibility spell nonmagically, as undead normally see with this type of vision (to them this vision is "natural" from their unnatural states). Plus only beings that use invisibility to undead can escape the caster's eyes with this spell active. This spell does not allow a saving throw or magical resistance to escape it's detection properties, as only the caster's eye are affected, from the spell's onset the caster gains vision akin to undead, thus the magic of this spell does not find the objects and beings, the caster's augmented eyes do.
When the priest casts the eyes of the dead spell, he is able to see clearly any objects or beings that are invisible, as well as any that are astral, ethereal, or out of phase. In addition, it enables the wizard to detect hidden or concealed creatures (e.g., thieves in shadows, halflings in underbrush, and so on). It does not reveal the method of concealment or invisibility, except in the case of astral travelers (where the silver cord can be seen). It does not reveal illusions or enable to caster to see through physical objects. Detection is in the wizard's line of sight along a 10' wide path to the range limit.
The material components of this spell are a pinch of dust from an undead that has been turned and a small amount of grave soil.
Notes: This spell is rarely granted and then only to the followers of evil Deities or those of knowledge and Divination.
