Dark Pulses — Drow
(Conjuration, Evocation)
Level: 2
Range: 15 yds./level
Components: V, S, M
Duration: Special
Casting Time: 2
Area of Effect: Two targets
Saving Throw: None
This spell is very similar to the magic missile spell. It creates 2 emerald-green bolts of acid that unerringly strike their targets and each cause 1d3 points of damage per 2 levels of the caster (to a maximum of 5d3 damage each for a 9th level caster). In addition, the caster can have the damage occur instantaneously, or on a round by round basis (commonly used against enemy spellcasters). For example, a 7th-level mage could have his dark pulses each cause 3d3 damage all at once or have them deal 1d3 damage each round, for a total of 3 rounds. The last use will prevent most spellcasters from casting spells while they are suffering damage. Unlike the magic missile spell, the dark pulses are not stopped by a shield spell.
The material components for this spell are 2 drops of spider saliva.
Notes: Restricted to the drow; rare for Deathsingers, otherwise very rare.
