Dark Pulse IV — Drow
(Conjuration, Evocation)
Level: 5
Range: 20 yds./level
Components: V, S, M
Duration: Special
Casting Time: 5
Area of Effect: 1 creature
Saving Throw: None
This spell is more potent version of the dark pulse III spell. It creates a jet-black bolt of energy from the Negative Material Plane, which unerringly strikes its target and causes 2d4+2 damage per 2 levels of the caster. In addition, the caster can have the damage occur instantaneously, or on a round by round basis (commonly used against enemy spellcasters). For example, a 7th-level mage could have his dark pulse II cause 6d4+6 damage all at once or have it deal 2d4+2 damage each round, for a total of 3 rounds. The last use will prevent most spellcasters from casting spells while they are suffering damage. Like the dark pulse spell, a dark pulse II is not stopped by a shield spell.
The material component for this spell a piece of bone from a 3 HD or greater undead creature.
Notes: Restricted to the drow; rare for Deathsingers, otherwise very rare.
