The Black Art of DeVir

Dark Blast — Drow
(Conjuration, Evocation)

Level: 5
Range: 30 yds./level
Components: V, S, M
Duration: Instantaneous
Casting Time: 5
Area of Effect: 30' radius sphere
Saving Throw: ½

This spell is very similar to the fireball spell. It creates a jet-black ball of radiation energy from the Underdark, this sphere causes 1d6 damage per level of the caster (to a maximum of 10d6). Targets of this spell receive a saving throw vs. spell for half damage, with a separate roll being made every time it blasts. In addition, this spell remains in effect for 1 round for every 4 levels the caster has achieved. Thus a 9th-level mage's dark blast would last for a total of 2 rounds, unless dispelled. When the following rounds of the damage occurs, the dark blast winks out of existence and reappears the following round, at its start (on initiative 1).

The caster can have any creatures or objects he willingly touches or a single race (for example, the drow) immune to the damage caused by this nefarious spell. Under no circumstances is the caster ever harmed by his own spell.

The material component for this spell is a dark gem of any type that was mined in the Underdark.

Notes: Restricted to the drow; very rare.
