Draven's Stone Skin‡
(Alteration)
(Earth)
Level: 7
Range: 0
Components: V, S, M
Duration: 1 rd./level
Casting Time: 7
Area of Effect: The caster
Saving Throw: None
This spell transforms the caster's skin into living stone, which grants him several powerful resistances and abilities. While the spell is in effect, the caster cannot be harmed by weapons unless they are of +1 or better value, or by creatures of 4+1 Hit Dice or less.
Edged weapons, falling, crushing, and constriction attacks of all kinds only cause ½ damage to the spell recipient. The wizard saves against elemental Earth spells with a +2 bonus, receives a saving throw at half against earth magic that doesn't allow a save, and is rendered immune to Petrification. The wizard's weight is increased to 150% of his normal weight. The wizard is granted the constant protection of a ring of fire resistance and receives a +6 bonus on saves vs. electricity (successful saves reduce the damage to ¼, if the save fails he only suffers ½ damage). If struck by a rod of smiting, he takes 2d6+6 damage, unless a natural 20 is rolled. If this happens, the damage is doubled or Tripled as chosen by the DM.
In addition to the natural immunities of Draven's stone skin, the wizard enjoys powerful offensive abilities. His Strength score is raised to 18 (warrior/mages may roll for exceptional Strength) for the duration of the spell, and he can punch or bludgeon his enemies twice per round for 1d4 points of damage per hit, plus Strength bonus. His AC is lowered to 4, plus any bonuses from Dexterity or magical items. Unfortunately his movement becomes slightly slower and more awkward, so he is reduced to ¾ movement and suffers a -1 penalty to his initiative rolls.
Draven's stone skin may create additional hazards for the wizard as the DM deems appropriate. For example, the wizard's skin could be turned to mud by a transmute rock to mud spell. Spells that damage stone cause double damage to the wizard. All other earth spells, like stoneskin, that beneficially change the caster physically do not function. The wizard also sinks like a stone (which he is) in water.
The material component of this spell is a piece of stone from a stone golem.
Notes: Unique to the Bladesinger Draven Lahar of the FORGOTTEN REALMS setting.
