In the Realms, one fundamental difference between the magical disciplines of the South and the North is reflected in the system used for recording spells. The southern discipline is know as Thoth mage-script; which requires a read southern magic spell to understand it, instead of the Northern used read magic.
This unique and potent spell allows the caster to read any and all spells from either the Northern of Southern magical recording disciplines. In effect, this spell fuctions as both the read magic and the read southern magic spells at the same time.
The material components for comprehend magics is a small hollow lens filled with quicksilver.
