The Art of Phoenix

Call From the Ashes
(Summoning)

Level: 5
Range: 10 yds.
Components: V, S, M
Duration: Special
Casting Time: 5
Area of Effect: Talina "Phoenix" Faynevon (only)
Saving Throw: Neg.

When this spell is cast, it opens a line of communication with the mage, waking her if necessary (though the spell is ineffective if Phoenix is unconscious). An image of Phoenix's head appears before the person who cast the spell; Phoenix can see, hear, and speak through the image. Spells cannot be cast through the image in either direction. The image provides enough information for psionic contact to work, but normal range modifiers still apply; Phoenix is not considered to be within line-of-sight, even though her image is.
If the person who casts call from the ashes is one of Phoenix's friends or utters a code word known to Phoenix and identifying that person as a friend of a friend, Phoenix may forgo the saving throw she would normally receive against this spell and allow herself to be summoned to the caster.
If Phoenix does not know the caster of the spell and no code is mentioned, the caster has 1 round to explain himself or herself. If the caster is slow, Phoenix prompts the person to explain the reason for casting the spell. If the explanation is reasonable, or if she is needed for a good cause, or if for some other reason Phoenix thinks she should go to the caster's aid, she forgoes the saving throw. In certain cases, she might go simply to see how the caster came into possession of the spell-and to mete out punishment if any is deserved.
If Phoenix does not wish to be summoned for any reason, she receives a saving throw vs. Spell. Since she is a 32nd-level fighter/20th-level mage, she needs roll only a 6 or more on a d20 to succeed in her saving throw (possibly altered by items in her possession).
If Phoenix fails her saving throw, or if she willingly forges her save, she instantly arrives within 10 yards of the caster of this spell. She has some choice about where she arrives and, having seen the scene through her image, chooses a place that appears advantageous for her. If she is not on good terms with the caster, Phoenix will definitely arrive in a place that gives her a distinct advantage.
Phoenix arrives with whatever equipment and clothing he has on at the time, as well as whatever she can grab in the few seconds between notification and transportation. This may on occasion lead to some embarrassing situations, such as being summoned from a bath.
If she is summoned into a dire situation, Phoenix is more than able to defend herself. If frivolously or maliciously summoned by someone with no right to use the spell, Phoenix is more than capable of causing enough damage to inspire more politeness in the future-if the offender lives.
Since Phoenix has several non-mage friends, she created the call from the ashes spell so that it can be placed onto a scroll that can be used by non-mages. If call from the ashes is placed on a scroll by a mage capable of casting it (such as Phoenix herself, which is usually the case), it can be activated by any person capable of reading.
See Talina "PHOENIX" Faynevon's entry for her description.
The material component for call from the ashes is a large fire.
Notes: Known to the mages of the Golden Enclave; otherwise very rare.
