The Spells of the Drunken Mage

Arkon’s Incredible Conjoinment‡
(Alteration)
(Artifice, Incantation)

Level: 9
Range: Touch
Components: V, S, M
Duration: Permanent
Casting Time: 1 hour
Area of Effect: 2 magical items
Saving Throw: Neg.

This spell melds any two magical items into one potent relic! The physical characteristics and composition of the two items merges together. The two items need not be of the same category (amulet, armor, blunt weapon, edged weapon, ring, shield, wand, etc.). The wizard must touch both items during casting.

The two items then join and gain the average of all benefits of both items. Thus, Dramond, a wizard, could meld together his prized silver ring of protection +6 (+1 to saves) with his crystal bracers of defense AC 3 to produce a totally new and unique type of item. This item could called Dramond’s crystal bracers of supreme protection. This item is a set of crystal bracers of defense AC -3 that also grants a +1 to the wearer’s saving throws (AC 3 from the bracers and the +6 AC bonus from the ring incorporated); in addition, the crystal design of each bracer is augmented by glowing silver runes.

At the culmination of the spell, the original two items to be thus merged together by this magic must each make a success saving throw vs. disintegration with all the modifiers they are allowed, if any, for composition, material type and magical bonuses.

If the saving throw is successful, the item resists the effect and the spell fails. Upon spell failure a d100 must be rolled to find out the results of failure, the spell could end up leaving both the items unharmed (25% chance), the destruction of only one item (50% chance), or the destruction of both items (25% chance). If the role fails, all the physical characteristics, composition and magical bonuses and powers of the original two items are merged together or the physical characteristics, composition and magical bonuses and powers are lost. The base chance for loss of physical characteristics and composition is 100%, reduced by -5% per 2 levels of the caster. Thus only a 40th-level wizard has no chance of losing the magic. If the physical characteristics and composition is lost, both items are forever ruined.

The material components for Arkon’s incredible conjoinment are the two items to be affected by the spell; both items, which will be merged together.

Notes: Unique to Arkon Zutat of the FORGOTTEN REALMS setting.
