Art of the SPELLSPHERE

Astroth's Spell Shield
(Abjuration)
(Force)

Level: 6
Range: 0
Components: V, S
Duration: 1 rd./level
Casting Time: 6
Area of Effect: The caster
Saving Throw: None

This spell will put up a barrier the size of a large shield on the arm of the caster’s choice. This barrier will reflect up to 3rd level Invocation/Evocation spells away from the caster, even magic missile. The caster has to actively try to reflect the spell for it to work. Thus a spell aimed at the casters back can not be reflected. The spell reflected will be treated as grenade like missile once reflected off of the shield.
In order to reflect, the caster must roll a saving throw vs. spells. Should the saving throw be successful, the spell is reflected away. If the caster beats the saving throw by 5, the spell is reflected back at the original spell caster, affecting the original spell caster as it would have the target.
The caster may reflect up to the number of spells per round equal to a fighter number of attacks per round. Thus a 10th-level wizard may reflect up to three spell every two rounds.
Once the spell is in use, the arm that the shield is on can’t be used for attacking, spell casting, etc., as the caster must concentrate of reflecting the spells sent against him. Spells can be cast if they only require one arm to cast (unless there are two spell shields active), or verbal components.
The shield is invisible and cannot be seen unless a spell or device is used, such as true seeing, detect invisibility, etc. When the spell shield is hit by spells that are reflected, the shield ripples like a stone hitting water.

Notes: Very rare spell.
