Spells of the SPELLSPHERE

Astroth's Absorbing Spell Shield
(Abjuration, Force)

Level: 8
Range: 0
Components: V, S
Duration: 1 rd./level or see below
Casting Time: 6
Area of Effect: The caster
Saving Throw: None or see below

This spell is just like Astroth’s Spell Shield, but instead of reflecting 3rd level Invocation/Evocation spells, it can absorb up to 5th level spells. Instead of reflecting, the spell shield absorbs the spells and holds them. On mental command from the caster, all the spells that were absorbed by the spell shield may be directed at a target.
The spell shield may only absorb up to 15 spell levels, thus a fireball, lightning bolt, magic missile, and Melf’s acid arrow would add up to 9 spell levels. (fireball, level 3; lightning bolt, level 3; magic missile, level 1; Melf’s acid arrow, level 2 = 9 spell levels). Anything over the 15 spell levels causes the shield to explode doing damage of all the spells absorbed by the shield at once to the caster and anyone else within the spells radius. Save vs. spells for ½ damage.
Once the shield is used to cast all the spells absorbed, the spell shield is exhausted. All the spells that were absorbed by the caster of the spell shield, the same effects of the spells are now blasted at the target. Thus if lightning bolt, fireball, magic missile, and Melf’s acid arrow are absorbed by the shield, then all of these spell are now unleashed at the target, doing the damage extended for the caster of the spell shield, to include fire, lightning, acid damage to items.

Notes: Very rare spell.
