YWAM Outreach Stories - Spiritual Warfare

Set free from a curse in the Amazon
Joel Angyal, Mauio Winter DTS 2004, April 2004 DTS outreach to the Amazon Jungle in Brazil

A young Indian we had gotten to know in the Amazon wanted to do a DTS with YWAM Manes, which is in that region. His father who was a witch doctor did not want him to go. The indian boy still made up his mind to go anyway in order to grow in the Lord. His father then put a curse on him and his hand became paralyzed so that he could not play the guitar. The boy was ashamed to tell anyone what happened and tried to hide his hand. When asked if he could play the guitar, he told his story. The YWAMers then prayed for him and his hand was instantly healed.

Woman freed from witchcraft
Dave B. - Maui Discipleship Training School (DTS) outreach to India - 1998

After our team did an open air at a village near Madras (Chennai), we prayed for people there. Another team member, Jon, and myself were asked to pray for a woman who they said was under a witchcraft spell.

They took us to a dark hut where the woman sat there, quietly hunched over. We prayed in the name of Jesus for the witchcraft spell to be broken. The woman then said a word or two in Tamil and the other women there got all excited. They thanked us and we went on our way.

We found out a few days later that the woman had indeed been under a powerful witchcraft spell. She had not walked or spoken and had barely eaten for months. The day after we prayed for her, she was talking, walking around and eating! News of this apparently had spread through the whole village of 5,000 people!

Rock concert in Irkusk
David P. - No Longer Music (Steiger 14 ministries) rock concert outreach in Irkusk, Russia - ~1990

A large rowdy crowd came to the concert in Irkusk. Standing in front were a group of Satanists who were screaming and cursing. During the concert they took the tracts that we had given the audience and made little bonfires with them.

When Terry, our guitarist walked by them they tried to kick him as they screamed and mocked.

Forty-two kids came on the stage to receive Christ that night, while on of the Satanists jumped onto the stage and started urinating off it, and another screamed obscenities into the microphone.

I thought to myself, This is real spiritual warfare!

If that was not our team leader, who was it?
Dave B. - Honolulu Discipleship Training School outreach to India 1994

Our team was arriving in Bombay and then planning to take the train to Bangalore. Someone was supposed to meet us at the airport, but because of miscommunication, no one was there to meet us. None of us had been to India before, but being a good team leader, I consulted my Lonely Planet India Guide and got us into a budget hotel in town.

Some of the team members were a bit apprehensive, being in an Asian nation for the first time, and being on our own since no one had met up with us. One of the girls, Bev, was particularly apperehensive.

That night, the girls slept in an A/C double room, and the guys in 2 other regular rooms. In the girls room, Bev slept on one bed and Amber & Heather on the other. After they went to sleep, Amber looked over and saw me, wearing a light outfit, asleep on the bed beside Bev. (She said I was facing the other way, but she recongnized my hair) She looked a few times during the night and still saw me there. She figured, 'Oh, the other girls must have gotten scared and wanted Dave to stay in our room tonight. He was probably glad to do so since our room has air-conditioning!'

When the girls woke up the next morning, Amber casually mentioned something about me having been there, and the other girls said, "Dave wasn't here last night!" And in fact I had not been (Their door was also locked all night). They then realized that the person in the light outfit lying next to Bev must have been an angel!

Deliverance in South Africa
Perth Discipleship Training School (DTS) outreach to South Africa - 1987

A Perth DTS team were asked to go and minister in a village in Transkei on the invitation of one of the village members. The team went there and started ministering to the youth and preaching the gospel, but nothing was happening at all. There seemed to be a real heaviness over the village. The team then tried praying for the sick, but again nothing was happening. The team leader felt that this was an indication of a territorial spirit over the village and they started to pray. They began praying for a young lady who had been insane for 10 years, ever since she walked into her hut and saw her father hanging from the rafters (he had committed suicide).

Once they started praying for her she started manifesting (showing signs of demon possession) and demons were flying out as the team leader was casting them out. They started attaching themselves to the pastor's wife and one of the team members, as they were trying to find a new house (person) to live in. The assistant leader started praying for these people and they were set free, and the team leader kept praying for this girl. She had a spirit of death over her life and it was influencing the whole village - and as the team leader prayed she became more and more free.

Once he had finished and the spirit of death had been removed from over the village, the whole atmosphere of the village had changed - there no longer was any heaviness and the people were open to the gospel and responed to it. There is a continuing work in that village today and the girl who was insane got progressively less insane over the years.
