What's With That

This is a new collection of columns by me (magicfunk) on things that bother me. This is becasue (as you may have noticed) I like to whine. (I also like to overuse parentheses.) But anyway, there are only a few so far. Maybe even one by the time you read this.

Article 1: Italicized Text

May 15, 1998

Nope, I'm not talking about flavor text (as much as I love it. Except the new ones. I really don't care what Gerrard said.) but rather the little text that follows an ability. At first, it was only flanking rampage and some other ones that really needed it, but now it is everything just about. I was doing ok until I saw that, in Stronghold, they have to explain that WALLS CANNOT ATTACK! what's with that? Is WotC forgetting it's old time gamers and focusing on attracting new ones? Does this remind anyone of a certin company with three intials. The first one being T and the other two being SR? yep these are the same tactics that drove once mighty TSR into the ground. This is yet another example of companies being greedy. They got greedy with the artists, and now they are trying to cheat us? This is just part of a trend. I remember when not any 2-bit moron could play magic. When the only place you saw cards were in the hands of acne encrusted glasses wearing, pocket protecting nerds? (I am one of them but I'll save that for another ariticle.) Now any joch can understand the rules. This is like the internet. People that did dorky things like play Magic controlled it until some moron decided to make it user friendly! (at this point my friends Nikhil reaches through the modem lie and slaps me stopping my rave). But seriously, if WotC is going to try to make magic more friendly to newcomers just don't forget us long time players. I mean, they must wondered how we learned without Portal.

Note: I was just kidding about a lot of that. So uh, no offense ok?
