BENJ. R. FIELD FORDS THE RIVER


          Benjamin R. Field, who for sometime has been a resident of this city, responded to the summons of Death Sunday morning and was called away into the Hereafter. More than two years ago Mr. Field was a victim of a stroke of paralysis, and later received the second one. During the months following he suffered greatly, and welcomed the means of the release from the ills of the flesh. For several days just previous to his death he lay in an unconscious condition and did not rally sufficiently to bid farewell to the relatives who surrounded him.
          The funeral services were held at the residence at three o'clock Monday afternoon, conducted by Rev. J. W. Whitlock and Rev. P. S. Heald. Afterwards the remains were taken to Hazelton, Ind., where they were laid away Tuesday morning to await the resurrection of the Just. The funeral party included Mrs. Field, her son George, of Valparaiso, Indiana, her nephew J. W. Field of Strasburg, and Miss Bessie Field of Patoka, Indiana.
          Mr. Field was born in Gibson County, Indiana, on the 18th of July, 1828 and was therefore nearly 75 years of age at the time of his death. Quite a number of years ago he came to Shelby County, and in 1893 removed to this city. He was married five times, his fifth wife and two sons by a former marriage surviving him. The sons are George E., of Valparaiso, and K. R. of Patoka. An aged brother of the deceased, K. W. Field, resides in this city and with a host of other relatives and intimate friends mourns the death of him who...

Mrs. Field was Benjamin's fifth wife, Martha E. Shull. Benjamin had no children by Martha.

George E. Field, of Valparaiso, was the oldest son of his first wife, Lydia Ellen Brown.

J. W. Field, of Strasburg, was James William Field, son of Benjamin's brother Keen W. Field.

Miss Bessie Field, of Patoka, Indiana, was the daughter of Henry Clinton Field and Minerva E. Peterson. Henry was Benjamin's first cousin.

K. R., of Patoka, was Benjamin's son, Keen R. Field, by his first wife Lydia.

K. W. Field, of Shelbyville, was Benjamin's brother.

Benjamin is buried, along with his third wife Amanda and six of his ten children, in the IOOF Cemetery, Hazleton, Gibson County, Indiana.

Benjamin R. Field was married to Lydia Ellen Brown, Elizabeth Moore, Amanda E. Dills, Margaret Anne Gillispie and Martha E. Schull.
