Well
.................. MP3's are basically high quality
digital sound files that you can easily play on your PC.
Even if you have the worst sound card in the world they
sound good. The other great thing about it is that you
can get the latest songs and old ones too from off the
Net. The players are small so don't worry about not
having enough room on your system to run them. The only
thing that may dissuade you somewhat is the fact that the
music files are 3 to 5 Mb. That kinda stinks if you have
a slow connection, but then all you have to do is set it
and then go suck a mango, drink a Carib, or feed the dog.
You get the idea. Downloading One of the best
programs for downloading off the net as in this case is
CuteFTP, which you can download from the here. This
program is recommended because of the fact that it can
resume downloads if Tanty decides to call and break your
internet connection. Essentially the program will pick up
the leftovers that you missed . I use WSFTP. It too is a
really good File Transfer Protocol utility, but it
doesn't resume where you left off. If you have ever tried
downloading something off the Net using Explorer or
Netscape, you know that they crash sometimes . These FTP
utilities are really what you should be using for any
transfer of files. The Players As noted above,
theplayers are relatively small (300Kb), and there are
all kinds. The best of the best is WinAmp 1.8x and you
can grab that from here. There are also other good
versions that are imitations of WinAmp such as Fusion. I
have not come across any indication that Fusion is
shareware ( I think that it is free), but WinAmp kindly
asks that you register the program after a specified
length of time. There is no limitation key so that means
that if you do not register the program will still
continue to work. They operate on an Honour System. WinAmp Plugins The player also
has plugins which allow you to see speakers playing,
screen saver effects, sound effects, yadda yadda yadda.
You get the idea . . . they just add to the novelty.
Usually there is a description in the zipped file or
download area explaining what the particular plugin does.
WinAmp Skins The player also
allows you to change the way that the interface looks.
They have some really cool ones out there, and people are
always creating more. The link that I have provided
allows you a great choice from hundreds of skins to
customize your WinAmp Player. MP3's MP3's are the music files. Located at the bottom of this page are several search engines to help you find the music that you're looking for. The link at the top left side also is to a MP3 Web Site. Use the search engines below to get the FTP sites. After the site address is displayed, open CuteFTP or whatever utility that you are using and enter the numeric address as shown, proceed to enter the stated user id and password. Set the retry connection option at a number that you feel comfortable with (I usually use 12), then select connect. The concept that you are using is basically the same as pressing speed redial on your phone when you're trying to get through to a number that is usually busy. After you finally connect brrowse through the directories until you finally find what you want. Select the folder that you want to send the file to on your hard drive then download.
