-
- Where can you begin when talking about
the career of Barry Windham. His life has exemplified that of a classic
wrestler. He first became known to the nationwide audience in 1984 when
he teamed up with Mike Rotundo to form the U.S.A. Express. The two won
the WWF tag titles on two occasions, first from Dick Murdoch and Adrian
Adonis, and then from The Iron Sheik and Nikolai Volkoff. Windham was a
young, tall and lanky wrestler with excellent quickness for a man his size.
Soon after the Express lost the titles for a second time (to Greg Valentine
and Brutus Beefcake) Windham would leave the WWF.
-
- After a stint in his old Florida stomping
grounds, Barry made his way to the NWA (later renamed WCW). He became a
solid star here, winning the NWA tag team titles twice (with Lex Luger
and Dustin "Goldust" Rhodes), the NWA U.S. title (from Nikita
Koloff), the WCW TV title (from Steve Austin) and the NWA world title (from
the Great Muta). He also was a long-time member of the Four Horsemen. Along
the way, Windham would return briefly to the WWF in 1989. He was known
as the Widowmaker, but wouldn't remain there long before re-signing with
WCW.
-
- In the early 1990s, Windham disappeared
from the wrestling scene with a knee injury. But in 1996 he re-signed with
the WWF. Calling himself The Stalker, he wore camouflage face paint and
camouflage pants. The gimmick didn't fly. So when the opportunity came
to join Justin "Hawk" Bradshaw as the New Blackjacks, he took
it. Although they were a solid team, they were unable to win the WWF tag
titles.
-
- As 1998 rolled around, Windham found
himself a top contender in the organization he was all too familiar with,
the NWA, which had become affiliated with the WWF. Windham lost an NWA
North American title match to Jeff Jarrett, but a short time later he would
abandon Bradshaw to join up with Jarrett and the rest of the NWA.
