The above U.S. National Debt real-time counter is the most accurate one currently available on the Web. It uses data published daily by the Bureau of the Public Debt of the U.S. Department of the Treasury to update the counter, which uses a linear extrapolation technique based on the changes of the Debt every 10 business days at 11:30 EST within the last 2 years to get the current amount.
The debt counter updates 25 times a second. Based on the debt's increase as stated above, the expected accumulation is $4575 per second.
The above extrapolation cannot account for daily fluctuations that result from different accounting bases. It does, however, give the best estimate with the currently available data to extrapolate future values.
