The Elven Calendar

The Eldar had a solar year , called "coranar" which means "sun-round" , also called "loa" meaning "growth". This is the calendar of Imaldris in the Third Age. The first names are the Quenya names for the months (which are actually more like seasons than months) the second are the Sindarin names. Their translations are : spring , summer , autumn , fading , winter , stirring.

The elven week counted six days , and the five days out of the months have no week-days. The days were called "re" and reckoned from sunrise to sunset.

This calendar was used by the elves of Middle Earth because they had to deal with mortals , but for themselves , having more time at their disposal , they reckned in long periods called "yen" which translated means "year" that counts 144 coranar.
