Spellbound

You turn to gaze around,
And look her way—
Not on purpose, but it’s enough.
You stop where you are
And stare, transfixed—
You have not the will to look away.
Guiltily, you watch her lift her hair above her head
And let it fall—
Cascading down her back and spilling around her shoulders,
Soft as silk and thick as honey.
Standing by a window, she is bathed in moonlight—
Glowing with a radiant aura.
It plays across her face, tracing every defined feature
As she turns toward you.
You are caught like a deer in the headlights—
Unable to move and unable to look away.
She entrances you with her steady gaze,
And it seems to you as if she can see
Straight down into your soul—
Your life passes before her eyes.
Then she smiles…a small, knowing smile,
And winks at you before she turns gracefully and walks into the darkness,
Fading into the shadows beyond,
And you wonder if she was ever there at all.
