Soundtracks

The music for movies can make us cry and make us laugh. It sets the scene and creates a mood for us to follow when we listen to it. Movie soundtracks are wonderful to listen to even if you haven't seen the movie itself. Here I have collected information and song clips of some of my favorite movie soundtracks. I hope you enjoy them and will see the movies and maybe even buy the CDs!

Titanic

(1997) Music by James Horner

Cool Quotes:

Track List:

  1. Never An Absolution
  2. Distant Memories
  3. Southampton
  4. Rose
  5. Leaving Port
  6. "Take Her To Sea, Mr. Murdoch"
  7. "Hard To Starboard"
  8. Unable To Stay, Unwilling To Leave
  9. The Sinking

  11. A Promise Kept
  12. A Life So Changed
  13. An Ocean Of Memories
  14. My Heart Will Go On (Celine Dion)
  15. Hymn To The Sea

Rating: James Horner does a spectacualr job on the music for this movie also! There is an underlying Irish theme to the music with the tin whistle predominantly in tracks 1, 4, 8, 11, 14, and 15 and the uillean pipes in quite a few. Sissel's singing in the background of most of the songs is totally haunting and will make your skin crawl with the sheer beauty of her voice. I have read that her voice is being confused with Enya (my own mom did the same when we were listening to the CD in the car) and I guess I can see where people are getting confused. I didn't but I've heard Sissel on another recording (listed below). Anyway, this is a MUST for anyone who loves some good music. James Horner is a great composer anyway so you can only expect the best of him. If you've seen the movie and you listen to the CD you'll probably find yourself near tears again as I do! The music does that to me anyway. It's so beaufitul!

Long Journey Home

(1998) Music by Paddy Moloney

About It: Long Journey Home was a documentary on PBS a month or so ago about the Irish coming to America and all the struggles they had. I would have watched it but certain factors stood in my way. If you are interested you can buy the videos (for a steep $80) but it's about 9 hours or so long all-together so it's probably worth it.

Track List:

  1. Shenandoah
  2. Main Theme
  3. Paddy's Lamentation/Ships Are Sailing
  4. Emigration Theme
  5. The Bard Of Armagh/The Streets Of Laredo
  6. Skibbereen
  7. The Night That Larry Was Stretched - Jig
  8. White Potatoes
  9. Famine Theme
  10. Muldoon, The Solid Man/Grandfather's Tune
  11. An Raibh Tu Ag An Gcarraig? (Were You At The Rock?) (sung by Titanic's Sissel)
  12. O'Carolan's Farewell To Music
  13. Bean Phaidin
  14. O'Donnell's Lament/Reel With The Beryle
  15. American Theme
  16. Long Journey Home (Anthem)

Rating: This music by Paddy Moloney of The Chieftains is very good in the sense it expresses feeling and emotion how his music usually does. Many modern and well-known Irish performers are included, such as Van Morrison and Sissel. Anyone who loves Irish or Celtic music will love it. Pick it up if you see it in the store!

Please email me if there is a soundtrack you would like put up here!
