Cryptozoology Books

I am an avid collector of books on cryptozoology. The following list represents my collection to date. I am always on the look out for new titles, or copies which are in better condition than the ones that I have. Please contact me if you think that you have anything which may be of interest to me, or if you too are interested in collecting books on cryptozoology.

Newly discovered, supposedly extinct and unconfirmed inhabitants of the animal kingdom

THE LOCH NESS MYSTERY SOLVED by Ronald Binns. PB/P
A sceptical analysis of the evidence for unknown creatures in Loch Ness. Birds, otters, deer, rocks, wakes, driftwood, etc. suggested as explanations to the sightings.

DRAGONS - THE MODERN INFESTATION by Pamela Blanpied. PB/E
A surprisingly thorough investigation into the anatomy, habits, recreation and eating habits of modern dragons. This entertaining book is written as though dragons are a flesh and blood creature living in our modern world.

MAMMOTH HUNT by John Blashford-Snell & Rula Lenska. HB/DJ/E
The hunt for the giant elephants of Nepal. In 1987 rumours began to emanate from Nepal that local people had seen a massive elephantine creature - believed to be a mammoth - in their hunting grounds near the Karnali River.

ALIEN ANIMALS by Jane & Colin Bord. HB/DJ/G
Accounts of lake monsters, giant birds, black dogs, ABCs, bigfoot, etc. Discusses points such as - where do they come from? Are they mutants, prehistoric throwbacks, psychic manifestations, E.T.s or Apparitions?

LIVING FOSSILS by Maurice Burton. HB/G
This 1956 book gives an explanation of the term 'living fossil', and continues with accounts of discoveries such as the coelacanth, the tuatara, the thylacine and many more.

Mediocre Nessie paperback containing some original illustrations.

THE FLIGHT OF DRAGONS by Peter Dickinson. HB/DJ/E
This beautifully illustrated book explains the author's reasoning behind his belief that dragons did really exist. The mythology of dragons gives many suprisingly consistent clues to suggest that this could have been the case.

PROJECT WATER HORSE by Tim Dinsdale. HB/DJ/P
The true story of the monster quest at Loch Ness, focusing more on the human aspect and the trials and tribulations of the chase

MONSTERS OF THE SEA by Richard Ellis. HB/DJ/E
The history, natural history and mythology of the oceans most fantastic creatures. This book explores two extremely fertile environments: the human imagination and the deep blue sea.

MYTHICAL MONSTERS by Charles Gould. HB/DJ/E
A reprint of a book written about 25 years after Darwin's 'Origin of Species'. Discusses creatures such as sea-serpents, dragons and unicorns.

Inquiries & research into Bigfoot, Nessie and other 'monsters'.

MONSTER MYSTERIES by John Grant. HB/DJ/E
Bigfoot, ogopogo, vampires, the little people and more are discussed in this book which asks whether human psychology is an important element of monster sightings.

THERE ARE GIANTS IN THE EARTH by Michael Grumly. PB/A
A study of the life and habits of three strains of hominoid apemen.

MONSTERS AND MYTHIC BEASTS by Angus Hall. HB/DJ/G
This generously illustrated book examines the evidence for monster sightings, and discusses thier authenticity.

HARGREAVES NEW ILLUSTRATED BESTIARY by Joyce Hargreaves. PB/E
Explores the fascination that we have for strange and mysterious creatures. Myths, poetry and quotations from ancient sources and the symbolism attached to fabulous beasts.

ON THE TRACK OF UNKNOWN ANIMALS by Bernard Heuvelmans. HB/DJ/E
The 1995 reprint of Bernard Heuvelmans famous book. A popular introduction to cryptozoology and a scientific presentation of 'hidden' animals.

IN THE WAKE OF SEA SERPENTS by Bernard Heuvelmans. HB/DJ/G
Dr Heuvelmans excellent study of unknown sea animals. Published in 1968, this first English edition copy was found for me by the wonderful people at Amazon.com

THE GREAT ORM OF LOCH NESS by F. W. Holiday. HB/A
Includes many sighting reports by the author and others, and discusses the author's beleif that the creatures of Loch Ness are giant invertebrates.

THEY DINED ON ELAND by Christopher Lever. HB/DJ/E
Traces the history of the 'Acclimatization Society', which was founded to enrich the wildlife of it's native countryside with exotic animal specimens, mainly for hunting and sporting purposes.

THE MONSTERS OF LOCH NESS by Roy P. Mackal. HB/P
Large (400 page) volume studying the Loch Ness mystery in great detail including the results of the Loch Ness Phenomena Investigation Bureau surveys.

LIVING FOSSILSby James Martin. HB/E
Colourful book concerning creatures which have 'stood the test of time', including: the coelacanth, the tuatura, the horseshoe crab, the komodo dragon, etc.

LAKE MONSTER TRADITIONS by Michel Meurger. PB/E
Examines the nature of lake monsters by questioning the nature of the sightings themselves. Contains results of a three year field study of monsters at over 20 lakes in Canada.

BIGFOOT by John Napier. HB/DJ/G
The Yeti and Sasquatch in myth and reality. An attempt to disentangle the rational from the irrational, the legend from the living animal.

WOLVES AND WEREWOLVES by John Pollard. PB/E
A comprehensive survey of the history and folklore of wolves, as well as their demonic counterparts.

ANIMAL INVADERS by Clive Roots. HB/DJ/A
Extensive investigations into the reasons for the introduction of exotic animals and how their ways of life have had profound effects on their new habitats.

EXTRAORDINARY ANIMALS WORLDWIDE by Karl P N Shuker. HB/DJ/E
Dr Shuker's book begins with an account of De Loys mysterious ape, and continues to cover a vast array of extraordinary animals.

A selection of cryptozoological articles which Dr. Shuker wrote for Fate magazine. Unknown bears, sharks, jellyfish, birds, whales, dragons and many more creatures come together in this collection.

DRAGONS - A NATURAL HISTORY by Dr Karl Shuker. PB/E
A beautiful, colourful book which examines the dragon legend and offers an illuminating insight into these majestic creatures.

STRANGE SECRETS OF THE LOCH NESS MONSTER by Warren Smith. PB/A
Mediocre Nessie investigation containing no illustrations!

THE SNOWMAN AND COMPANY by Odette Tchernine. HB/DJ/G
The nonsensical stories and the serious reports and evidence are examined and evaluated in this first edition published in 1961.

THE LOCH NESS STORY by Nicholas Witchell. HB/DJ/A
The BBC newsman chronicles the development of the search for the legendary Monster of Loch Ness. Full description of the underwater photographic breakthrough of 1972/3.
