Did Custer die for your sins?
As the Europeans came from Europe to escape the churches and religion forced upon
them. They did the same to the Native Americans. They forced the Native Americans to
forget their culture, their traditions, their customs, and their way of life. Then they forced
the Native Americans to take up the traditions, customs and the way of life of a European.
Many rebelled but the military power of the United States was to strong for them. Many
tribes were wiped away others lost their ways of lives.
Not know who you are where you come from makes you feel like your nothing.
Who are you? Where do you come from? What were you ancestors like? The only way
you could find out is to look in a book, but most of the time those books are written by
the misunderstood ones. The ones that called the Native Americans savages. The ones
that took away the lives and land of the Native Americans. As the saying goes don’t judge
a man before you walk a mile in his shoes. Or you could say a mile in his moccasins.
Whatever the case you know that when the Europeans first saw the Native Americans they
started to get their opinions right away.
So did Custer die for your sins? Wait there is more. As the Europeans came
across the land during the gold rush many of the buffalo died away. Most of the
Europeans killed the buffalo for the hide. The Native Americans killed the buffalo to
survive not for the money for the buffalo hide. For the food, for the shelter, to survive
that was the way of the Native Americans. The buffalo were fading fast. The Native
Americans started to starve. How else could they survive. They asked the government
for help. The government would not lift a finger unless it pleased the Europeans. The
Native Americans came last.
As more Europeans came the more the lakes, rivers, and streams got polluted. The
Europeans were wasteful. The diseases that they had brought had almost wiped out
whole tribes.
If this had happened to you on your on land what would you do? Oh ya there was
no chance of a peace treaty either since the government loved to break those. What
would you do just sit there and watch them take and distort your land and watch your
people starve. No, I didn’t think so. You would fight back as many of the Native
Americans did. Even thought the U.S. Military was more powerful than the Native
Americans they Native Americans fought. Most of them fought because they hated the
Europeans. Others fought so the government would do something. Some fought to stop
the Europeans.
Now did Custer die for your sins?
From the birth of the United States till 1969 over 400 treaties were made between the Native Americans and the United States Government. Out of those 400 treaties all 400 have been broken. The Native Americans get to practice their beliefs for many years after they first got put on reservations. It was not until the 60’s when there was an upraise in Civil Rights.
