You Can Do It, Save A Child

EVERY 2 SECONDS

A CHILD DIES

Of hunger, or a related disease. In some countries one in five children die everyday BEFORE THE AGE OF FIVE. In fact, children die everyday from things that are easily curable like diarrhoea, malnutrition or measles.

Did you Know?

* About 1.3 billion people live on a daily income of less than $1.

* More than 1 billion people in our world cannot access safe water.

* 840 million people face hunger or food insecurity.

* Nearly 12 million children die each year from diseases that could be prevented.

* In developing countries, half of which are located in Asia, one in four children are working.

* Nine out of 10 children working in domestic services are girls.

* A huge number of these children are working for their families in homes, fields and on the street.

WHY?

Hunger problems usually result from a series of unfortunate events. In India and China families living in poverty are forced too move to cheap or even dangerous areas, like earthquake zones and river banks prone to flooding. These places are in turn affected by food shortages, so it is common for people living there to suffer from famine. Overpopulation and natural disasters like drought and crop failure add to the problems. Many children are resorted to scavenging in rubbish dumps for anything of even the smallest value, but with the help of various organisations things are improving.

There is something you can do! By becoming a World Vision child survival partner, you can help many small children receive the simple things that will save their lives. For $15 a month, less than $1 a day, you can help provide food, oral rehydration and immunisation. World Vision also watches the children grow to make sure they survive. Every three months you'll receive a picture of one of the many children being helped by World Vision. You will also receive reports about how your money is helping these children.
