Because I feel that getting involved with live poetry is the best way to experience those words, and that supporting the artists in a community is every individual's obligation, I am proud to suggest some readings for both would-be first-timers and veterans alike.
Enter the Dragon
Hosted by Nate Green and Toe Knee (I’m partial to hotties, what can I say?) at ARTScorpsLA every Friday around 9ish. ARTScorpsLA is located in the China Town Promenade between Hill and
Broadway, North of College. It can now be seen from Hill across from the Plum Tree Inn and behind the New Dragon. The promenade area includes the wishing well, Hop Louie’s, and Quan Brother’s in the Grand Star building. Once you find that stuff, you won’t be able to miss ARTScorpsLA. There are parking lots on College and Broadway next to East West Bank where you can park for free, or you can park on the street. Contact ARTScorpsLA at (213) 617-3877,
or Nathan Green at (323) 664-6049 for more information.
These boys still need help constructing their web page. Here’s an opportunity to get
your creative energy channelled on line. You got Art? Cool links?

Conscious Vibes
Hosted by Gary Justice, this reading takes place the 2nd and last Saturdays in the Grand Star right next to ARTScorpsLA in Chinatown. Poetry and Music by Blues Experiment. FREE ADMISSION
WITH GUEST. FREE DRINKS WITH MORE GUESTS. Call Gary Justice (818) 989-1885 or email him at garyjustice@earthlink.com. This is a great venue, and the cave-like darkness of the upstairs chamber adds quite a deal of mystique to the already enigmatic Justice’s presence.
Poetic License
Hosted by the charming and insightful Larry Jaffe, PL takes place every Tuesday night and is located at Zen in Silverlake. Zen is at the corner
of Evans and Hyperion, entrance off Evans. There’s Japanese food downstairs, and mind-boggling words upstairs in a theatre style setting. Sign-ups at 7:30 or on-line (see website).
Thee Word Thing
Hosted by the one and only Lob. The reading takes place every Wednesday night in Costa Mesa. It’s free, 21+, and fabulous. Smoking room, pool, video games, a band at 9pm…oh, yeah, and poetry! Lob has been known to boast “We have the best sound system of ANY venue for spoken word!” So be there. What are you waiting for?
