By the time The Beatles released Sgt. Peppers most of the Stones were in jail, busted for drugs of various types. On February 5, 1967 Mick Jagger had reportedly taken acid at the Moody Blues house and shortly thereafter, Keith Richards was busted for acid. Despite the fumbles and tumbles with the law, the Rolling Stones were not to be outdone by Sgt. Peppers. In the late summer of 1967 they released 'their answer' to the Beatles now #1 album.
Their Satanic Majesties Request "...a bold move which infuriated some critics at the time, but who can argue with the languorous psychedelia of '2,000 Lightyears from Home', the anthemic innocence of 'She's a Rainbow', or the wit of '2,000 Man? Marvelous..." New Music Express, 7/8/95 page 46.
The original LP cover was a functioning hologram which produced 3D effects handily. The album was produced entirely by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards (with the exception of Bill Wyman's "In Another Land".
