THESTEVEMILLERBAND

THE STEVE MILLER BAND

Sailor

The groups second album is 'classic' from many standpoints. 'Living in the USA' (which is currently playing on this page) is a classic by any standard. Steve Miller used this album to introduce his character; 'The Gangster of Love'. Boz Scaggs is credited with the classic 'Overdrive', it is the last album he would cut with the group. One of my faves is 'Quicksilver Girl' said to be written by Miller about David Freiberg's underage girlfriend Girl Freiberg. The Quicksilver Messenger Service was always associated with underage girls. What a life!

The Steve Miller Band saga, actually known as the Steve Miller Blues Band, began in late 1966 at the UC-Berkeley campus over Thanksgiving, where he was discovered by Chet Helms, the concert promoter at the Avalon Ballroom in San Francisco and the founder of The Family Dog. Miller, at the time lived out of his VW microbus.
