This was the second album for the group, their first, self-titled, had marginal appeal. This album is probably their finest since it includes alot of 'live' stuff like a 25 minute version of Bo Diddley's Who Do You Love which features each members demonstration of his own command of his various instruments. Mona is another extremely great song! John Cippolina's guitar splendor is prominent and thrilling and the transition to Maiden of the Cancer Moon is just astounding. I'm sure you'll love this one.
Considered by many to be the best psychedelic album of the era by a San Francisco group. It was good because of the live stuff, Quicksilver's great following was in the concert halls and they performed regularly all around the bay area in 1968. They were, for this album, John Cippolina, Greg Elmore, Gary Duncan, from Ceres, CA (a greater Modesto satellite), and David Freilberg. John Cippolina held the group together through several musician changes, you will notice personnel changes from album to album of Quicksilver, it was just one of their traits as a group.
QMS is one of my favorite groups, my Collection includes their entire discography and with the addition of some archival video my collection would be complete. If anyone can help me locate two videos, any help would be appreciated. "Revolution" cir. 1969 VHS; "The Trip" with Peter Fonda and Jack Nicholson. More will follow on this group, they really are one of my favorites for many, many reasons as you shall read about as time moves on. So, stand by for more...
